An Introduction to
The Veil
No one knows exactly when the first sighting occurred. The earliest records are incomplete. A sketch found in the margin of a journal. A description written by a traveller who could not explain what they had seen.
Notes from observers separated by centuries, all describing encounters that should have been impossible. Those who recorded these events gave them a name.
Elari.
What the Elari are remains unknown. Some researchers believe they are creatures. Others argue they are manifestations of natural forces. Dreams, memories, emotions or ideas. A few insist they are none of these things at all.
"Sketch found in the margin. Author unknown."
What is known is that sightings follow patterns. Not rules. Not laws. Patterns. The same strange forms appear again and again. Similar behaviours emerge. Certain discoveries seem connected, though no one fully understands how or why.
Over time, researchers began grouping these patterns together. They called them Domains. Whether these Domains truly exist, or simply reflect humanity's attempt to organise something far more complex, remains a matter of debate.
Why do some appear, while others never do?
Why do sightings seem to cluster around certain places, moments or conditions? How many Elari exist? Are new ones still appearing? Or have they always been here?
Behind every observation lies a larger mystery. A place known only as The Veil.
No one has seen the Veil directly. It cannot be mapped. It cannot be measured. It cannot even be proven to exist. Yet its influence appears throughout every credible account ever recorded.
The Veil is the explanation offered when no other explanation remains. A hidden layer of reality that exists alongside our own. A place from which the Elari seem to emerge. Or perhaps a place to which they belong.
No one knows.
That uncertainty is what draws observers back, again and again. Every discovery answers one question and creates three more. Every sighting reveals a little more of the unknown. And every observer leaves their own mark on the record.
You are now one of them.
Observe.
Record.
Discover.
And perhaps, in time, see beyond.
